Community development means building conditions for long-term flourishing – not just addressing immediate needs, but shaping the economic and intellectual landscape a generation inherits.
The Eden8 Foundation operates from a specific premise: that early STEAM education in underserved communities is one of the highest-leverage investments available. Not because it feels good, but because the data is unambiguous. Children who encounter STEAM fields as possible, accessible, and relevant before age 10 are dramatically more likely to pursue them.
Community, in our work, means the specific places and families we serve – not an abstraction. It means underserved schools. It means East Salinas. It means Los Angeles County. It means the teachers who have too little time and too few resources, and the students who have exactly as much potential as anyone else.
Underserved communities are our focus, not our afterthought.
The communities where early STEAM exposure is rarest are the communities where the opportunity to change outcomes is highest. This is not a compromise. It is the point.
Who we serve
Eden8 programs are built for students in underserved schools – schools where at least 40% of students come from low-income households. These are the communities where teachers are stretched thinnest, where enrichment budgets are smallest, and where access to advanced STEAM programming is most limited.
Our initial deployment focus is Monterey County – including East Salinas – and Los Angeles County. These aren't test markets. They're the communities where we're building relationships, learning what works, and measuring what changes.
Why aviation, specifically
Aviation is everywhere and invisible to most students in underserved communities simultaneously. Aircraft fly overhead. Drones are appearing in agriculture, medicine, and infrastructure. The industry is hiring – urgently – and the career pathways are well-defined and well-compensated.
And yet: the population entering aviation and aerospace remains stubbornly narrow. Not because of aptitude. Because of exposure. Eden8 works to correct that, one classroom at a time, starting at the age when curiosity is boundless and identity is still forming.

Monterey County
East Salinas and the surrounding agricultural communities represent some of the highest concentrations of students in underserved communities in California – and some of the lowest rates of early STEAM engagement. This is where Mighty Tails™ is being piloted and refined.
Los Angeles County
LA County's school districts serve more than 600,000 students, a significant proportion of them in underserved schools. The region is also home to a major aerospace and aviation industry corridor – making the geographic alignment between workforce opportunity and student population especially meaningful.
Expanding Thoughtfully
Expansion follows demonstrated impact, not ambition. We are building a model worth replicating before we replicate it. Future focus communities will be identified through the same lens: high underserved school concentration, proximity to aerospace industry, and existing educator relationships.
